Ruff Ride Is Coming to NYC for 24 Hour Cycling for Veterans Event

Ruff Ride is coming to New York City.

On a late March morning in Upper Manhattan, the doors of the Nike Track and Field Center at the Armory will open not for a traditional track meet, but for something far more personal.

For 24 consecutive hours, from 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28, through 10 a.m. Sunday, March 29, 2026, teams of cyclists will take turns pedaling stationary bikes in a relay designed to fund something that does not run on adrenaline, but on training, trust and time: accredited service dogs for injured and disabled veterans.

The event, known as Ruff Ride NYC, is organized by Team Foster, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides fully trained, accredited service dogs to veterans at no cost. What began as a mission driven cycling challenge has evolved into a high energy gathering of riders, volunteers, families and veterans, all united around a singular goal.

“This isn’t just a ride. It’s a mission.”

Since its founding in 2014, Team Foster has funded hundreds of service dogs and supported thousands of veterans nationwide. Beyond placements, the organization advocates for veterans and their service dogs in workplaces and legislative settings, and works to educate the public about the often-unseen wounds carried home from military service.

The dogs funded through the organization are more than companions. They are trained to assist veterans coping with mobility challenges, post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injuries and other service related conditions. For many recipients, the animals restore independence, stability and connection.

Ruff Ride reflects that urgency. The format is simple but demanding: a 24-hour stationary cycling relay, part endurance competition and part community festival. Teams raise funds in advance, rally supporters and rotate riders throughout the day and night. Spectators and volunteers remain onsite, creating an atmosphere that blends athletic grit with purpose.

The New York event is being hosted in partnership with America’s VetDogs, expanding the reach of a cause that continues to draw both civilian and veteran participation.

In a city that rarely slows down, Ruff Ride asks New Yorkers to stop, show up and pedal forward, not for medals, but for mission.
