One of my biggest passions is doing hair, especially braiding. I started braiding when I was 11 years old after my aunt taught me how. At first, I was just learning the basics, but the more I practiced, the better I became. Ever since then, doing hair has been something I enjoy in my free time and a skill that I continue to develop.
When I first started learning, it was not always easy. My braids were often uneven, and I would sometimes become frustrated when styles did not come out the way I wanted them to. Fortunately, my aunt was very patient and continued to guide me. She would show me what I did wrong and explain how I could improve. Over time, I learned the importance of patience, practice, and paying attention to small details.
As I became more comfortable with braiding, I started learning different styles. Some styles were simple, while others were much more complicated and required a lot of time and concentration. Learning new techniques challenged me, but it also made me more confident in my abilities. Every new style I mastered felt like an accomplishment.
One of my favorite styles is knotless braids, Fulani braids, and knotless twists. Those are my go-to styles because they tend to last longer on my hair and look great when they are finished. However, getting braids done is not always a quick process. If you are getting your hair braided professionally, it can take four to five hours or even longer depending on the style. When I do my own hair, it usually takes me about two days to complete. In my opinion, two-strand twists are one of the easiest styles to learn, while micro braids are one of the most difficult because the braids are so small and take many hours to complete.
One of the things I enjoy most about doing hair is the creativity involved. There are so many different ways to braid hair, and each person has their own preferences and style. I enjoy experimenting with different patterns, lengths, and looks to create something unique. Braiding allows me to express creativity while also helping others feel confident about their appearance.
Another reason I enjoy doing hair is because it can be relaxing. When I am focused on a hairstyle, I can put aside other distractions and concentrate on the task in front of me. It gives me a sense of accomplishment when I see the finished result. I also enjoy helping friends and family members with their hair because it allows me to use my skills to make someone else happy.
Braiding has taught me more than just how to style hair. It has taught me patience, discipline, and persistence. If a braid does not come out correctly, I have learned that the best solution is to keep practicing until I get it right. Those lessons can be applied to many other areas of life, including school, work, and personal goals.
Even though I love braiding, I do not plan to make it my career. For me, it is a hobby and a skill that I genuinely enjoy. I love doing my family’s hair and helping friends when they need it, but I do not want to spend all of my time braiding hair as a full-time job. I have other goals and plans that I would like to pursue in the future. Keeping braiding as a hobby allows me to enjoy it without turning it into work. It is something I can continue to do because I love it rather than because I have to.
Overall, doing hair is a passion that started when I was 11 years old because of my aunt. She taught me a valuable skill that I still use today, and I am grateful for everything she showed me. Although I do not plan to turn it into a profession, braiding has become an important part of my life. It allows me to be creative, build confidence, and connect with others. It is a hobby that I expect to enjoy for many years to come and one that will always be a part of who I am.
