Community Journalism is an important part of the Big Apple Gazette’s mission to highlight the voices, stories, and issues affecting neighborhoods throughout New York City.
The Gazette covers a wide range of subjects reflecting the diversity and complexity of the five boroughs. Reporting includes community events, political interviews, policy discussions, local business spotlights, nonprofit initiatives, cultural stories, and issues directly impacting residents across the city.
At the same time, the Big Apple Gazette believes Community Journalism should not be limited only to professional reporters. Some of the most important stories come directly from the people experiencing them every day.
Because of this, the publication welcomes submissions and contributions from writers, photographers, community members, students, volunteers, and local organizations interested in sharing stories connected to their communities.
Individuals may submit opinion pieces, event coverage, feature stories, interviews, photography, neighborhood concerns, or stories highlighting positive work being done throughout New York City. Contributors do not need to be professional journalists. The Gazette values authenticity, local perspective, and community engagement.
The goal is to create a platform where everyday New Yorkers have an opportunity to share their voices while also learning more about media, storytelling, and public communication. We are also happy to help guide individuals interested in journalism or media, help fine-tune ideas and articles, or simply help provide an outlet to bring their message to a broader audience.
Community Journalism also helps preserve stories that may otherwise go unnoticed. Whether it is a local veteran sharing their experience, a nonprofit helping residents, a small business serving a neighborhood, or concerns about issues affecting the community, these stories matter.
As the Big Apple Gazette continues to grow, Community Journalism will remain a central part of its commitment to public engagement, local storytelling, and giving communities throughout New York City a stronger voice.
