On June 27, 2024, the 3rd Avenue section of the South Bronx buzzed with excitement as the Bronx County Conservative Party hosted a watch party at the Bx Hotspot for the much-anticipated presidential debate between Republican candidate and Conservative-endorsed former President Donald J. Trump and Democratic candidate President Joe Biden.
The atmosphere inside the venue was electric, with attendees eagerly awaiting the showdown between the two political heavyweights. The tension had been building for weeks as Trump and Biden exchanged sharp attacks in the lead-up to the debate.
Patrick McManus, Chairman of the Bronx County Conservative Party, shared his enthusiasm for the event: “It’s a great day for us. Trump’s recent visit to the Bronx really motivated and rallied the community. In the past, we struggled to find venues and attract attendees for our events, but this time, we had to search for larger spaces due to the overwhelming number of RSVPs for our watch party.”
McManus also emphasized the importance of having New York State Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar in attendance: “One of the big draws was having our State Party Chairman join us for this event. It’s been some time since he visited us, and many party members and guests were eager to meet him.”
The watch party featured three distinct sections—the Garden View, the Main Hall, and the Waiting Room—each packed with attendees who rotated between rooms. The lively atmosphere included political discussions, debate viewing, and enjoying a catered buffet. The Bronx County Conservative Party’s banner, prominently displayed outside the venue, drew attention from passersby, with one individual even registering with the Conservative Party on the spot.
Gerard Kassar, Chairman of the New York State Conservative Party, expressed his satisfaction with the event: “I’m thrilled to see such a great turnout. Everyone here is having a fantastic time, especially after Trump’s strong performance against Biden.”
Kassar also shared with the crowd that Trump was aware of the watch party, prompting an enthusiastic roar of approval from attendees.
The debate, hosted by CNN, left many in the audience convinced that Trump had dominated the exchange, with some Democratic leaders calling for Biden to step down from the presidential race shortly after the debate concluded.
