NYYRC Catholic Caucus Joins Thousands at the March for Life

On January 24, 2025, members of the New York Young Republican Club (NYYRC), led by the Catholic Caucus, converged in Washington, D.C., to participate in the 52nd annual March for Life. The event, a key moment in the pro-life movement, drew Americans from all corners of the nation to continue the fight against the now-overturned 1973 Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade, which had legalized abortion nationwide for decades.

Despite the landmark Roe ruling being overturned more than two years ago, the march remains as vital as ever. In a powerful demonstration of commitment to the pro-life cause, thousands of marchers braved freezing temperatures to make their way to Capitol Hill in celebration of life. Their presence underscored the enduring importance of protecting the unborn and reaffirmed the movement’s momentum in the post-Roe era.

The NYYRC Catholic Caucus issued a bold statement during the march, emphasizing that “The right to life is the foundation of all rights. We are here to remind the current administration that they must remember their base of support for the pro-life cause.”

Ann Marie Smetona, Chair of the Catholic Caucus, spoke with conviction, stating, “With a new administration and a new Congress, we have the best opportunity to enact a pro-life and pro-family agenda that will make a difference for generations to come.” Her words reflect growing optimism within the movement, especially in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe.

Justin Baird, a prominent figure in the Catholic Caucus, also addressed the gathering, calling for a cultural revival. “America needs to embrace a culture of life, vitality, and renewal—especially after the last four years of promoting unrestricted abortion, cultural decline, and governmental incompetence,” he said. His message resonated deeply with supporters, echoing a desire for a more hopeful and prosperous future centered on the sanctity of life.

The rally featured several high-profile speakers who amplified the message of the pro-life movement. President Donald Trump delivered a powerful video message from the Oval Office to the March for Life marchers, praising them for standing up for “the precious little babies that cannot stand for themselves.” Trump also took pride in being the first sitting president to attend the March for Life in person and highlighted his participation in the Roe decision’s reversal alongside the Supreme Court justices.

Other influential voices at the march included Vice President JD Vance, Speaker of the House Congressman Mike Johnson, motivational speaker Bethany Hamilton, and abortion survivor Josiah Presley. Many of the speakers emphasized the urgent need to continue advocating for the unborn and ensuring that the fight for life remains a central focus in American politics.

As the March for Life remains active year after year, it stands as a testament to the resilience and dedication of pro-life advocates across the nation. In the wake of the Roe reversal, the event continues to be a symbol of hope and determination, as supporters rally to protect the unborn and advocate for a culture of life in America.
