A Call for Integrity in Honoring Veterans:
I wish to bring to your attention a practice that is unfairly impacting our military and veteran communities.
To be clear, JetBlue is not obligated to offer a military discount, but if one is provided, it should be a simple, genuine gesture of appreciation —without requiring veterans to subscribe to a third-party service that charges fees. Companies like ID.me offer cost-free, reliable verification for veterans, allowing them access to discounts without financial strings attached.
Veterans and military members have given so much to this country, yet companies like “We Salute” are profiting from them in a troubling way. “We Salute” requires veterans to pay a subscription fee to verify their military status before they can access discounts from companies like yours. While it claims to serve veterans, this approach instead exploits those who have already sacrificed significantly. By imposing a fee for verification, “We Salute” has created a system that profits from the very community it purports to support.
There’s a respectful alternative: JetBlue can use a trusted, free veteran verification service like ID.me, which does not place a financial burden on veterans, allowing them to access discounts without extra costs.
By partnering with “We Salute,” JetBlue and similar companies inadvertently support a model that adds an unnecessary fee for veterans. If JetBlue‘s intention is truly to honor veterans, I encourage you to consider the impact of this partnership. Switching to free verification services will not only show genuine appreciation but will also demonstrate JetBlue’s commitment to valuing and respecting veterans without profiting from their service.
Please reconsider this partnership and stop the financial exploitation of veterans, allowing them to enjoy the respect and gratitude they’ve earned without added cost.
Sincerely,
H. Roy Bhiro, USAF Retired
A Concerned Veteran
